Beer comes in many flavors, and once September hits, pumpkin is the flavor dominating the shelves.

The original pumpkin beer which is still out today is Buffalo Bill’s Original Pumpkin Ale – a lighter style with a slight tangy taste to it. Light beer drinkers would also enjoy Pumpkin Head Jack Pumpkin Spice Ale with its nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and clove or Shipyard Pumpkin Ale with its strong pumpkin flavor. If you like dark, full-bodied, hoppy beer, try Post Road Pumpkin Ale or Dogfish Head Pumpkin Ale brewed with brown sugar, cinnamon and allspice. Or if you like a dark beer a strong pumpkin taste that lingers on the tongue, pick up a 22oz bottle of Imperial Pumpking (yes there is a g on the end of that for “king”). If you are looking for something in between, a couple medium bodied brands are Saranac Pumpkin Ale and Seadog – known for making flavored beer such as their Raspberry and Blueberry. For wheat beer lovers, try Blue Moon’s Harvest Moon. And if you are a Sam Adams loyalist, always excited to try his seasonal beer, you’ll definitely want to grab Sam Adams’s Pumpkin Ale.

Like pumpkin flavor, but not beer? Hiram Walker has a Pumpkin Flavored Liqueur great for making martinis with or sipping on the rocks after dinner.
